The sky was gray, the mood was good on Thursday morning, August 19th, 2021. The occasion that brought together the artist Christian Awe, Michael Grunst, Mayor of Berlin Lichtenberg, Harald Dittmar, Managing Director of sys-pro GmbH and Andreas Plank, Berliner Familienfreunde e.V., in front of Awe's artwork "express yourself" at the Kulturhaus Karlshorst was a great one.
At this location Christian Awe handed over the first pictures of his limited charity edition. With the purchase of one of the 100 pictures, syspro supports the campaign "#100 Voices against Child Poverty", the proceeds of which will in this case go to the Berliner Familienfreunde e.V. This will help support children and young people from Lichtenberg whose everyday lives are made more difficult due to child poverty.
Since May 2021, new large-format murals have been on display on the exterior front of the Kulturhaus Karlshorst at Treskowallee 112 in Berlin-Lichtenberg. The artist Christian Awe created them especially for this location. As part of his commitment to the campaign "#100 Voices against Child Poverty", Christian Awe has now exclusively produced a limited edition of 100 copies of the artwork. The title of the charity edition underlines the idea of the campaign: the English words "express yourself" stand for living out and expressing one's own thoughts, individuality and creativity. And to have the necessary freedom and opportunities to do so.
Andreas Plank was delighted to be able to use the donation to expand the services offered at the family center. "It is particularly important to us that all families can use the offers free of charge. Examples of this are the learning aids for elementary school students and the family relaxation courses," said Planck. "A family center with exclusion-free offers directly in the neighborhood with the families, where everyone equally finds help, feels comfortable and gets to know each other, that is supported by the donation and for that we say thank you!"
"We as sys-pro GmbH and also the Lions Club Berlin-Hohenschönhausen have been supporting the Family Friends in its extremely important work with children and young people in the district for a long time," says Harald Dittmar. "And now we are pleased that we can make a further contribution by supporting this great, inspiring campaign. I hope that this idea finds great support and, above all, is an impetus for more good ideas to be born and then implemented to make our city more livable for everyone."
Christian Awe said that within his possibilities as an artist and also in his experience as a father, he wants to do something to create perspectives and help children to live a carefree childhood.
About the artist and the campaign (from press release Bezirksamt Lichtenberg 20.8.21):
In addition to his artistic work in Germany and abroad, Christian Awe is involved in a variety of social and cultural projects - in Germany, the Middle East and Africa. The focus here is on education, integration and health issues. As an ambassador, he now also supports the campaign "#100 Voices against Child Poverty" launched by the Berlin-Lichtenberg district. During the Long Night of Pictures on September 3, 2021, interested visitors will have the opportunity to talk directly with Christian Awe. The artist will be on site at the Kulturhaus Karlshorst and will be happy to provide information about his mural "ex-press yourself" and the charity edition in a personal conversation. In addition, other works of art by Awe will be on display on the 1st floor of the Kulturhaus.
